What's Included In A Commercial Truck Towing Service: The Types Of Trucks And The Services Provided

Blog

Commercial truck towing is a very different sort of service from passenger truck towing, which in turn is a very different sort of service from passenger car towing. If you have a truck that is considered a commercial truck, you might be wondering what constitutes the definition for a commercial truck by this type of towing company, and what kinds of services are provided. To satiate your curiosity, the following is provided.

From Moving Trucks to Construction Vehicles

Commercial means commercial. There are rarely any exclusions here, except that anything over "x" number of tons is going to require some assistance with loading and transportation of the commercial vehicle and/or a highly specialized tow truck. A box truck for deliveries, a moving truck, a semi tractor, a cargo delivery van, and a light(er) weight construction vehicle all constitute "commercial" in this case. Ergo, anything you drive or have in your fleet that needs repair, the commercial towing service can tow.

Services Provided

The towing company can and will pick up your truck from the roadside or your commercial garage. You just have to make sure you leave the tow truck driver adequate room to maneuver so that he/she can hook up the truck and/or pull it onto a flatbed, if applicable. If it is going to be lifted into the air and towed with the front tires on the road, the front tires cannot be flat. If you have a flat front tire, be sure to tell the towing company that you have this problem. The driver will need to bring a different sort of truck and/or the means to change that tire so that the truck can be towed in the usual manner.

If the truck is sitting in your business's garage, have one of your employees move it into position where it can be picked up and nothing else is in the way. If the truck will not start and it is in a place where it will be difficult for the towing company to get at it, you will have to tell the driver that. It may require using a winch and chains to drag the truck out into the open where it will be easier to get it hooked up to the tow truck. However, if you do not tell the driver that this is the current situation with the truck, the driver will need to turn around and go get the correct towing vehicle and the equipment necessary to get at the truck.

towing and caring for a 4-wheel-drive vehicle

Owning a 4-wheel-drive SUV comes with more expense and doing things a bit differently. When you put tires on your 4-wheel-drive vehicle, you will have to replace all four at once. The tread-wear must be even to protect the 4-wheel-drive elements of the vehicle. When you have a 4-wheel-drive vehicle towed, you cannot simply hook it up to any tow truck and have it delivered to your local mechanic's shop. This blog will show you what needs to be done when your 4-wheel-drive vehicle needs towed and the other differences of owning a vehicle that goes beyond the basic 2-wheel-drive.
